4-channel EGT CAN Bus Expander

EGT module with 4 K-type inputs and CAN Bus connectivity.

Overview

The 4-channel EGT module from MS Labs is a simple solution to add 4 EGT sensors (thermocouples) to your MS3 ECU. Just connect them to the module, provide 12V power and ground to the module and finally connect the CAN Bus to the ECU.

All K-Type sensors are supported and the module can report up to 1000°C/1832°F temperature through the CAN Bus. As a failsafe, the module will report ~980°C temperature if a sensor is disconnected or broken.

The module supports the native 29bit MS3 protocol to read the values from the module (using "ADC polling" method) as well as 11bit broadcasting of the EGT values to the CAN Bus (ie using "CAN Receiving" mode on the MS3).

Both 29bit and 11bit methods can be active at the same time.

For 11bit, you can define both the base ID of the single 8-byte message as well as the period of broadcasting (ie 10ms/20ms/30ms etc–any custom number from 10ms up to 65000ms).

The options to configure the module are available through TunerStudio natively. The module has an ID number "8" by default, but again, this can be changed through the software if you want to add multiple modules.

Finally, the firmware can be upgraded through the ECU's USB cable–no need to use a different cable.

FAQ

This is a list of the most frequently asked questions we get. If you didn't find the answer you were looking for here, please contact us.

Can I use this module with an MS2?

Yes, but since the MS2 doesn't have native EGT handling, you can only see the voltage of the sensors through TunerStudio's "passthrough" realtime data. You can't actually use the data for anything on the ECU, you can only see them in TunerStudio.

Can I use this module with other ECUs?

Yes, but only using 11bit broadcasting, which is disabled by default. You will need an MS2 or MS3 ECU to connect to the module and enable the 11bit broadcasting.

Can this module read more than 1000°C temperature with K-type sensors?

No, it is limited to 1000°C.
